Default Helping a newly disabled FRIEND

Hey everyone , thanks for your time. My friend lost his leg from the hip down this time last year and now he is trying to get his life back together. He lives alone in Brooklyn and honestly i don't know where to start to help him. He has a place to live, he has a prosthetic leg but can someone please give me some simple first steps to getting him some additional assistance. Just want to make sure we are going down the right path. Am i correct in saying He needs a certificate of disability from his Doctor, then he should visit his local SSA office ?? Thanks

I would say simply go to the SSA office, and they will help him do the rest... They will ask him the pertinent questions, and get the information needed to address his claim. As a matter of fact, he can begin the process online, thankfully. and move from there...
