Peer Provider Training Now Taking Applications - Howie The Harp Fall 2016

Apply for Howie the Harp's 2016 Peer Training Program

Howie the Harp's Peer Training Program is the first step to a career where
your life informs your work!


We are now accepting applications for our comprehensive Peer Training
Program beginning in July 2016.

This intensive training program offers people who have lived experience
with a mental health condition the opportunity for a career as a Peer
Provider in Human Services. Our comprehensive training gives you the
tools to transform your own experiences in mental health care into skills
to support and aid others on their road to wellness and recovery.

Application Deadline is Friday, May 6th 2016.

Our program consists of three phases:
Phase I: In-Class Training

a.. 20 weeks of classroom training (450+ hours) Monday through Friday
b.. Curriculum content covers Personal Wellness, Knowledge/Skills of
Peer Workers and Work Readiness Training
c.. Trainings conducted by 25+ peer leaders, employers and other human
service professionals in NYC
Phase II: 12 Week Internship

a.. 24 hours per week hands-on experience as a peer provider in one of
various human service agencies across NYC
b.. Career coaching and group peer support throughout the internship
Phase II: Employment Placement Assistance

a.. Weekly Career Club meetings
b.. Access to computer lab for job searches, applications and online
correspondence
c.. Individual coaching on resume writing, interviewing and other job
search skills
d.. Participate in HTH Job Fairs attended by employers hiring for
various peer positions in Human Services
Minimum Eligibility to Apply:

a.. Have a documented mental health condition
b.. Completed education of High School diploma (GED/TASC equivalent) or
higher
c.. NYC resident
Program Benefits:

a.. Classroom interactivity, discussion and role plays designed for
various learning styles
b.. Career Coaching support from the first day of class through
employment placement assistance
c.. Preparation for NY State Peer Specialist Certification
d.. Welcoming and supportive learning environment that fosters recovery,
friendships, networking and peer support
