STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Assemblyman Michael Cusick today kicked off his annual initiative to remind Staten Islanders that handicapped parking spots must be reserved for disabled drivers.

"I consider this a public service announcement, especially at this time of year," said Cusick (D-Mid-Island), who gathered with advocates for the disabled at the Staten Island Mall amid holiday decorations. "There are more people out shopping now, but this is really a year-round initiative to remind people that these spots are there for a reason, to permit disabled individuals to go on with their daily activities."

Cusick’s office, the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce and Where-to-Turn are distributing posters to borough businesses to encourage them to remind customers not to park in spots reserved for disabled drivers.
