Default The time is NOW: Support the NEA

As a friend of TDF, you know the value of the arts; You know how we can be
entertained, engaged and even transformed by attending a theatre or dance
performance. I hope that as a theatregoer, you also understand the
critical role that funding from the National Endowment for the Arts (and
its sister agencies the National Endowment for the Humanities and the
Corporation for Public Broadcasting) plays in the ecology of the American
not-for-profit theatre. And you probably know that the budget plan put
forth by the Trump Administration calls for elimination of funding for
these agencies.

In the next 48 hours, Congress will be asked to pass a Continuing
Resolution allowing the government to continue spending money, including
federal funding for the arts. The Administration has called on Congress to
strip $30 million in funding from the NEA and the NEH in the Fiscal Year
2017 Continuing Resolution. Because the White House has called for cuts in
federal arts funding now and for total elimination of the NEA and NEH next
year, any reduction is a risk. Preventing any FY17 cuts now is the best
way to ensure that funding continues in FY18.

TDF receives funding from the NEA for our access programs for people with
disabilities; Virtually every not-for-profit theatre you attend and every
dance company you visit receives funding from the NEA. NEA funding reaches
every Congressional district in the country. It provides 40% of the
funding for state arts councils. It creates jobs, facilitates arts in
education programs and so much more. Perhaps most importantly, it
demonstrates that support for the arts is a core value of this country,
this democracy.

If you agree that our country should continue to fund the NEA, please
contact your elected representatives in Congress today and ask them to
include continued federal funding, at current levels, in the FY17
Continuing Budget Resolution. Itís easy to do, and will take only a few
minutes of your time.
