Job description
POSITION

Assistant Director, Accessibility and Visitor Services
RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Director, Visitor Services, this position is responsible for overseeing physical and programmatic accessibility for people with disabilities, including visitors, artists and employees at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Inc.'s (LCPA) various venues and offices, such as Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall; small on and offsite performance venues; outdoor venues like Damrosch Park, Josie Robertson Plaza; and Lincoln Center's online presence.

Deeply knowledgeable about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, and Universal Design concepts, the successful candidate will coordinate and collaborate with colleagues across departments to create an inclusive environment for all visitors. With experience in not only physical accessibility but also a strong familiarity with programmatic access in cultural spaces, the successful candidate will seamlessly integrate access precepts into programs and services LCPA offers. Furthermore, said candidate will enhance community outreach and marketing efforts by partnering with individuals as well as social service, cultural, and other relevant organizations to raise awareness about and seek input on LCPA's existing and future accessibility programs. This includes overseeing internal and external advisory councils.

As a key contributor to the larger Visitor Services (VS) team, the individual will have a superior guest care ethic and be able to seamlessly integrate accessibility efforts into the larger guest care initiatives s/he will participate in. Adaptability, determination and follow-through are important characteristics of the successful applicant as well as a demonstrated ability to successfully lead cross-team collaborations.

Specific Responsibilities include:

Develop and implement long- and short-term goals to advance Lincoln Center's accessibility for visitors with disabilities.
Oversee Accessibility budget and financials; identify new funding streams and revenue-generating opportunities.
Work closely with other LCPA departments to plan and implement existing and new accessibility programs and services; develop consistent policies and procedures around accessibility across departments.
Advise departments on accessible design in all areas: architectural spaces, programs, online presence, print materials, etc.
Work with VS to oversee, schedule, and evaluate a roster of volunteers to assist in guest care at events.
Convene on a regular basis the Cross-Campus Accessibility Board and Community Accessibility Advisory Council.
Review accessibility policies for common areas on campus and work with Cross-Campus Board towards consistency across venues and organizations (centralize operations where possible).
Manage and streamline the coordination and promotion of accommodations at events, including but not limited to: Large Print, Braille, Sign Language Interpretation, Audio Description, and Open Captioning to ensure they are consistently high quality.
Develop, coordinate, and evaluate existing accessibility programs, including the Passport and Community Outreach Programs as well as the inclusion of students with disabilities in LCPA's Meet the Artist School Series and Guided Tour Programs.
Interact with visitors with and without disabilities via email, phone and in-person with the highest level of professionalism.
Able to appraise, design, train-on and implement policy.
Design and lead regular Disability Awareness Trainings for LCPA staff and volunteers.
Remain up-to-date with sister institutions and accessibility best practices regionally, nationally and internationally; attend and contribute to relevant conferences and workshops.
Contribute to overall visitor experience, meeting regularly with colleagues in Visitor Services, Marketing, Atrium, Front of House, and other departments; including staffing events.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master's preferred in relevant field.
Demonstrated experience in cultural institutions (museums or performing arts spaces).
Established familiarity working and interacting with adults and children with various disabilities.
A thorough understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, and Universal Design concepts; knowledge of where and how to receive technical assistance; and how to apply those requirements and guidelines to a specific organization.
Past management experience of volunteers and/or paid staff.
Familiarity with cultural accessibility and disability community in US; NYC preferred.
Passion for disability advocacy within an arts setting.
Innovative problem-solver and motivated multi-tasker.
Comfortable using Microsoft Office suite, performing basic internet research, writing and responding to emails professionally. Up-to-date knowledge of accessible technology is preferred.
Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated experience communicating professionally, delicately and effectively with colleagues, supervisors and members of the public with or without disabilities.
Must be able to work independently as well as within a team environment.
Availability for occasional night and weekend work, as required.
