Soapbox The MTA New York City Transit Paratransit Advisory Committee (PAC) is seeking qualifi

The MTA New York City Transit Paratransit Advisory Committee (PAC) is seeking qualified applicants to serve on the PAC.
The 15-member PAC is composed of customers and representatives from major organizations that represent persons with disabilities within the five boroughs of New York City, including Disabled in Action, Guide Dog Users of New York, The Greater NY Chapter of the National Spinal Cord Injury Association, Metropolitan Council of Low Vision Individuals, National Federation of the Blind NYC Chapter, and National MS Society.
Qualifications: Candidates should have a working familiarity with ADA transportation regulations, direct knowledge of the Access-A-Ride service, and the time to study issues of concerns to the committee. Members must be able to work cooperatively within in a group. Candidates must support the role of the PAC, which is to advise MTA NYC Transit on trends and issues on mobility assistance, and the accessible transportation needs of the ADA eligible community. Candidates must be able and available to participate in discussions that will allow the PAC to offer suggestions and thoughtful recommendations for the improvement of ADA Paratransit service delivery.

The PAC meets the third Tuesday of every other month from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 33-00 Northern Blvd., LIC, NY. In addition, PAC members communicate with each other between meetings. This is an active committee. Members are expected to attend most meetings.
The selection committee is composed of Thomas Charles, Vice President of the Paratransit Division, Department of Buses, MTA New York City Transit (NYCT), Victor Calise, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, Stephanie White, PAC Chair, and David DePorte, PAC Vice Chair.

Individuals interested in serving on the PAC should send a letter to Denise Ann McQuade via e-mail or regular mail at Paratransit Division, 130 Livingston Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201. The letter should state their reason for serving on the PAC, summarizing the skills and abilities they will bring to it and include a current resume. The deadline for receipt of these letters is October 31, 2015.

After October 31, the selection committee will review all letters of interest and select the new members. An announcement of the new PAC members will be posted on our webpage, the MOPD website and via the communication networks used to solicit candidates interested in serving on the PAC.
